Centre for Investment Research established in UCC
20.02.2008

A new Centre for Investment Research has been established in UCC. Based in UCC, the research centre is a joint initiative between the Department of Economics and Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems and also involves researchers at Cass Business School (City University, London) and Dublin City University Business School.
The Centre has been established under a €200k grant from the IRCHSS to the Centre's Co-Directors, Dr Niall O' Sullivan and Dr Mark Hutchinson. In addition to a strong track record in high-level research in financial markets, the team of researchers bring considerable financial services industry experience to the Centre and aim for it to be a focal point for investment research in Ireland. The Centre is already expanding to include fourth level students who are engaged in full-time PhD research.

The Centre will be involved in many areas of investment research of benefit to investors, government agencies and the financial markets industry in Ireland, where its research findings have important applications. Its findings are likely to be of great interest to both institutional investors, such as banks and insurance companies, and retail investors as well as to financial sector regulators. The research funding has enabled the Centre to gain access to databases in Ireland, the UK and the US on pension funds, mutual funds and hedge funds as well as high frequency stock market data which will facilitate high quality research.

Further information on the Centre for Investment Research is available at http://www.ucc.ie/en/cir
