BSc Accounting Students awarded Musgrave Group Prize in Accounting

The Musgrave Group prize in accounting has been awarded to a group of four students from the BSc Accounting class 2007-2008. The winning group comprised Deirdre Cronin, Ellen Finn, Claire Flynn and Eimear Higgins. The prize was awarded after all the finalists in the competition made presentations at the Headquarters of the Musgrave Group in Cork.

 The competition focused on Management Accounting and involved the design of a Balanced Scorecard.   The group project focused on material covered in the advanced Management Accounting module available to four of the undergraduate degree programmes in the Faculty of Commerce.  Dr Margaret Healy of Accounting & Finance devised and administered the competition and selected the finalists.   This year, four groups were selected to present their projects at the final.  The winners were nominated by judges from the Musgrave Group who described the standard as extremely high.

The Musgrave Group sponsors a number of prizes in Accounting and Finance at UCC.  Support for MBS (Corporate Finance & Accounting) commenced in 2008 and sponsorship is also offered for undergraduate prize in Accounting.   now Ireland’s largest food and grocery distributor supplying over 3,000 retail outlets in Ireland, the UK and Spain.  Its major brands include SuperValu, Centra, Londis, Budgens, Daybreak and DayToday.
