"Where Finbarr Taught" - new book by John A. Murphy launched at UCC

Where Finbarr Taught:  A Concise History of Queen's/University College Cork 1845-2006 spans the history of  University College Cork (UCC) from 1845 to 2006. Written by John A. Murphy, this authoritative and engaging history of the University over a 161-year period, examines fresh aspects of a familiar and much loved campus.
UCC Emeritus Professor of Irish History, John A Murphy, traces the history of the institution from its foundation and the text is accompanied by specially-commissioned photographs taken by international photographer, Andrew Bradley. This concise history is intended for those who have an interest in UCC, including graduates, staff, students of the University, visitors to the campus as well as the people of Cork.

When it first opened its doors in 1849 (as Queen's College Cork) the UCC student body numbered just 115 people. Today, almost 17,000 students with  more than 2,000 international students from 83 countries worldwide, make the University a truly, vibrant, cosmopolitan institution.

Professor John A. Murphy, who is Emeritus Professor of Irish History at UCC, is author of The College: A History of Queen's University/University College Cork, 1845-1995 and University College Cork: A Portrait in Words and Images.

"Where Finbarr Taught" will be launched by UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy (today) Thursday, October 11th 2007 in the Aula Maxima, UCC.  The book is edited by Nancy Hawkes of the Office of Media & Communications, UCC.
