University College Cork (UCC) has achieved the status of cleanest third level campus in Ireland according to new league tables published by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL).
IBAL is an alliance encompassing more than 30 member companies who
share a belief that continued economic prosperity - notably in the
areas of tourism, food and direct foreign investment - is contingent on
a clean, litter-free environment. As part of the IBAL Anti-Litter
League, all towns of population 6,000 are monitored by An Taisce for litter levels according to
international standards. The areas are then ranked in a league table
format. UCC has achieved litter-free status, and ranks as the cleanest
third-level campus in Ireland.
President of UCC, Dr Michael Murphy said, "We are delighted to hear that UCC has achieved litter-free status. The University is situated in a naturally beautiful environment, but our top ranking is a tribute to the commitment of the team of grounds men and women, who keep the campus looking its best all year round, and the cleanliness of staff and students as well."
