Professor Neil Collins, Department of Government, UCC has been elected as President of the Political Studies Association of Ireland (PSAI), the professional body for political scientists, at its recent AGM.
Professor Collins told the meeting that a recent survey of professional bodies for the discipline in Europe had shown the PSAI to be one of the strongest. He plans to build on the Association's strengths as an advocate for the discipline, an outlet for political science research and a forum for the discussion of common issues. He will be continuing his interests in the new EU recognised common politics curriculum and seeking to shape the emerging European Confederation of Political Science Associations.
According to Professor Collins, "It is a timely moment to take control of Ireland's professional association of political scientists. Exciting new developments in second and third level education will lead to the discipline assuming an ever more central educational role.”
