"Defamation and Privacy: Recent Developments in Law and Policy" - UCC Conference



"Defamation and Privacy: Recent Developments in Law and Policy" is the title of the 6th Annual Law Conference to be held on Thursday, 30 November.  Hosted by UCC's Law Society, the conference takes place in the Clarion Hotel, on Lapp's Quay, Cork City.

"The increasingly popular event is aimed at bridging the gap between the practising professional and the aspiring university legal student, as well as identifying and critically assessing important legal issues in the modern world", said Conference Director, Yvonne Hurley.

This year's line up of speakers includes Dr Eoin O'Dell, Trinity College Dublin, Mr Eamonn Kennedy (Head of Legal Affairs in RTE), Gary T. Davis (deputy Data Protection Commissioner), Mr Séamus Dooley (NUJ Ireland) and Mr Simon McGarr (McGarr solicitors representing Digital Rights Ireland). The opening session which will be addressed by Professor Caroline Fennell, Dean of the Faculty of Law, UCC will be chaired by the renowned academic Eoin Quill.  The first session will focus on Defamation Law and Policy whilst Privacy Law and Policy will be the topic for discussion in Session II.

Over 300 delegates are expected to attend this year's conference including some leading legal figures from Cork city and surrounding areas.
