Power of One Street Campaign, 18 November
A final call has been issued today (13 November 2006) to the Irish
public to enter the Power of One Street Challenge, a nationwide
initiative led by Minister of Communications, Marine and Natural
Resources Noel Dempsey TD.
The Power of One Street invites householders throughout the country to
"live" on the most energy efficient street in Ireland. It is an
exciting challenge designed to show us all how easy it is to adopt
energy-saving habits in our daily lives. Here's how it works: Power of
One will select five householders all of whom are willing to change the
way they manage their homes and lives when it comes to energy
efficiency. Independent energy experts will first perform an "energy
survey" to determine what changes are most needed in those households.
The team will then be challenged to make those changes over the course
of six months - January to June - while monitoring all progress and
difficulties.
Householders that meet the challenges presented for them will then
receive several valuable energy-saving upgrades to their homes, from
energy-efficient appliances to technologically-advanced heating
controls. Regular updates on the participants' performance will feature
on www.powerofonestreet.ie so that the public can follow their progress
and, hopefully, be inspired by their experiences. In the end, both
participants and public will recognise how worthwhile it is to put The
Power of One into action.
The deadline for entries for Power of One Street has been set at 6
December 2006, so time is quickly running out for householders who want
to reduce their carbon footprint. Interested individuals can
register by logging on to www.powerofonestreet.ie.
"Energy is essential to our daily lives and collectively we can effect
change through efficiency. I invite Irish citizens to enter for
the chance to participate in the Power of One Street and make a real
difference around energy behaviours," said Minister Dempsey. "If
selected, your life will change for the better and you'll be a model
for everyone around you to make a positive impact".
Additionally, TG4 weather presenter, "You're a Star" personality and
Power of One spokesperson Daithí O'Sé will travel the country this
month on the Power of One Road Show to encourage the public to enter
the challenge. Consumers can meet Daithí in person and learn how they
can make a real difference to themselves, their pocketbooks and the
planet. Daithí visits UCC on Saturday next, 18 November, Aula
Maxima, 3-5pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
