Health: Looking to the Future - UCC Conference, 17 November



Innovations in medicine and health and where they might lead will be the topics for discussion during a thought-provoking conference hosted by the College of Medicine and Health at University College Cork (UCC) on Friday, 17 November.  The conference titled "From molecules to man: achieving outcomes in healthcare research" will focus on two of the College's research themes:
1) Vascular Health, Diabetes and Stem Cell Biology
2) Health Services, Health Policy and Population Health Research.

The aim of the conference is to encourage the interface between the bench sciences and the clinic with a view to developing new approaches in the effective diagnosis and treatment of disease as well as to improve patient care through population and health services research.

Presentations at the Conference will also cover other research themes in the College of Medicine and Health including Cancer, Food and Health, Infectious Diseases and 'Neuroscience, Mental Health and Pain'.

The keynote address will be presented by Professor Tim O'Brien, Director of REMEDI (Regenerative Medicine Institute) and Head of Medicine at NUI Galway, on the Advisory Council for Science Technology and Innovation: Recommendations for a National Health Research Strategy.

The conference which is sponsored by Astra Zeneca and Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), is being held in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC on 17  November.
