Henry Ford & Son Limited Continues Support of UCC Alumni Achievement Awards
Mr Eddie Murphy Chairman and Managing Director, Henry Ford & Son
Limited recently announced their continued support of University
College Cork's (UCC's) annual Alumni Achievement Awards by sponsoring
the 2006 Awards Programme.
Henry Ford & Son Limited previously supported the 2005 Awards when
seven excellent graduates from the university's academic faculties were
honoured including renowned poet, Paul Durcan and leading international
physicist, Professor Margaret Murnane. The 2006 UCC Alumni Achievement
Awards Programme has been re-organised to reflect the new academic
structure of the university into four constituent Colleges. The
2006 Awards will endow one graduate from each of the four Colleges with
an Alumnus Achievement Award. There will be four Awards in total:
the 2006 Alumnus Achievement Award from the College of Arts, Social
Science and Celtic Studies; the 2006 Alumnus Achievement Award from the
College of Business and Law; the 2006 Alumnus Achievement Award from
the College of Medicine and Health and the 2006 Alumnus Achievement
Award from the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science and
Technology.
UCC established the annual Alumni Achievement Awards in 1997 for the
purpose of recognising the outstanding achievements of a graduate who
has attained extraordinary distinction, is a leader in his/her chosen
field and whose achievements bring recognition to UCC. The UCC
Alumnus Achievement Award is the highest honour the university can
bestow upon a graduate. The Awards are a key part of the university's
alumni activities which aim to build and strengthen links between
graduates and their alma mater and foster a culture of alumni loyalty,
involvement and support for UCC.
Professor G.T. Wrixon, President of UCC, will present the 2006 Alumni
Achievement Awards at a Black Tie Gala Dinner in the Aula Maxima, UCC
on Friday, 1 December 2006.
Graduates and friends are welcome to attend the event. Tickets
cost €70 each and are available from the UCC Alumni Office on
