Pupils display musical skills

The musical talent of the pupils from Scoil Cholmcille,  Blarney Street, is about to be  demonstrated with the launch of  the School's very own CD.  The eagerly-awaited CD titled Blarney Street Beo is a direct result of the co-operation and collaboration of many people who worked to promote music in the school.  Every child contributed to the CD which was launched in UCC on Monday, 23 October 2006.

"Bridging the Gap is pleased to be associated with Blarney Street Beo and is very proud of the pupils who share their musical talents on the CD" said Dr Tracey Connolly of UCC's Bridging the Gap.  Since 2001 Bridging the Gap has engaged in partnership with Scoil Cholmcille CBS. Bridging the Gap which is based at UCC works with 47 schools in Cork city aiming to enhance the educational opportunities of the pupils involved.

Blarney Street Beo represents an innovative learning initiative. Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligence identifies that there are many forms of intelligences and this CD draws on the pupils' musical intelligence through which they created and communicated music. The development of Blarney Street Beo has added greatly to the value of the primary school music curriculum and it is apparent that the pupils learned a great deal from the different aspects of the initiative. Blarney Street Beo offered pupils many opportunities to work in groups and to communicate their ideas, as well as learning musical skills and working with instruments in an innovative way.

It was once said that 'magical music never leaves the memory'. This CD highlights the magical and long lived tradition of music at Scoil Cholmcille CBS and the inclusion of every pupil in the production which will never leave the memory!
