Does Politics Still Matter? Political Scientists gather at UCC for International Conference

UCC's Department of Government hosts the annual conference of the Political Studies Association of Ireland in UCC on 20-22 October next. This international conference will bring together 150-200 delegates from the discipline of political science to the University.

The Conference commences with a roundtable session exploring 80 Years of Fianna Fail. This is followed by a second session which will address the commemoration of the Hunger Strikes this year. The roundtables will feature academics, journalists and representatives of political parties.

The keynote address on Saturday will be given by Professor David Farrell. David Farrell is an international expert on electoral systems and he will present his recent work on the operation of the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system in Australia, giving insights into how Ireland might reconsider our own system of PR - STV.

The conference will feature parallel panels across the three days examining all aspects of the discipline of political science. Politics in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland receive extensive treatment but there are many panels exploring European and international politics.
