UCC hosts Junior Cycle Science Summer Camp, 3-7 July

The first week in July (3-7 July) sees the start of the annual Science summer camp.  For the second year running, UCC opens its doors to Junior Cycle students aged between 12 and 14 years. Organised by the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science, the camp aims to create interest and enthusiasm in science and engineering.

According to organiser, Dr Anne Cronin: "Demand for the Junior Cycle Science Camp has been exceptionally high again this year with many parents booking places since January. The camp provides the opportunity for these students to acquire an awareness of science and engineering at a time when they are choosing subjects through to Leaving Certificate level."

The programme consists of an exciting range of activities, including a robotics workshop (sponsored by the Cork Electronics Industries Association), forensic chemistry, DNA and microbiological investigations, programming, fitness testing, workshops in food technology and geology and a tour of the newly refurbished Crawford Observatory.

The Camp runs from 3-7 July.  Details from:  Dr Anne Cronin Tel: 021 4903299.
