Criminal Justice Conference at UCC, 1 June

UCC's Faculty of Law will host a conference titled 'Change in Criminal Justice Policy and Practice' on Thursday, 1 June 2006. The conference, which is aimed at criminal justice interest groups such as Garda officers, prison staff, social workers, probation officers, legal practitioners, civil servants, judges and academics will discuss the advances in criminal justice matters, particularly as they relate to policing, and trial and sentencing issues. One of the sessions will examine the implications of the new Criminal Justice Bill, as it relates to search warrants, detention periods, the taking of samples, inconsistent evidence, and fixed penalty orders.

"Staff in UCC's Department of Law have demonstrated a strong commitment to producing critical legal scholarship in the field of criminal justice and to fostering relationships with outside agencies and partnerships.  Over the years, a very strong taught and research postgraduate criminal justice programme has been built up in the Faculty of Law that has facilitated the creation of a pool of expertise and scholarship in the area" explained Dr Shane Kilcommins.

It is anticipated that the conference will act as a forum for discussion for criminal justice interest groups -  formally and informally - on issues of mutual interest.

The conference is worth 5 CPD group study (general) hours. Further details of this conference can be found at the Law Faculty Website http://www.ucc.ie/en/lawsite/eventsandnews/events/criminaljustice06/

The conference takes place on Thursday, 1 June in the Aula Maxima in UCC.
