Plan your future at UCC's Open Day, 31 March

Friday, 31 March 2006 marks UCC's second Open Day for schools when the university opens its campus and facilities to transition, fifth and sixth year students, their guidance counsellors, teachers and parents.

This Open Day aimed specifically at transition and fifth-year students, affords the opportunity for students to see for themselves what university life is all about, to meet lecturers and to gather as much information as they need about the courses they may later pursue.

An extensive programme has been organised for the day, including an overview of all honours degree programmes offered by the four colleges (Medicine & Health; Science, Engineering & Food Science; Arts, Celtic Studies & Social Sciences and Business & Law).  Campus tours, information stands and demonstrations will also take place and students will have an opportunity to visit the Mardyke Sports Arena where schools will participate in a programme of sporting events.  A presentation on the new BEd Sport Studies degree will also be given in the Arena.  Students interested in studying in the college of Medicine and Health will have the opportunity to visit the recently-opened Brookfield Health Sciences Complex as well as the new Cavanagh Pharmacy Building.

Transition Year students are invited to attend a presentation which will give an overview of all degree programmes with a focus on entry requirements and relevant subject choices for the Leaving Certificate.

According to UCC's Schools Liaison Officer, Nóirín Deady, "This year, for the first time, UCC has decided to offer a second Open Day which should facilitate demand from students in Munster, and other provinces, to see at first-hand what UCC has to offer.  Our hope is that all prospective students will gain an insight into programmes they have a particular interest in, as well as getting an overall impression of the University", she added.

The timetable can be downloaded by visiting http://www.ucc.ie/workingwithschools Details from: Nóirín Deady at 021-4902964.
