Inaugural Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) Ireland Chapter Meeting at UCC

The Inaugural Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) Ireland Chapter Meeting took place recently at UCC.

PDA is a non-profit international association of more than 10,500 scientists involved in the development, manufacture, quality assurance and regulation of pharmaceuticals/biopharmaceuticals and related products. The association also provides educational opportunities for government and university sectors that have a vocational interest in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical sciences and technology.

There are currently 24 worldwide chapters of PDA (6 in Europe, 1 in the Middle East, 11 in North America and 6 in Asia Pacific).  The United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter has successfully serviced the needs of the industry in Ireland.  Following proposals from the Irish membership, the Board of PDA approved, in December 2005, the establishment of an Ireland Chapter to specifically service the needs of the Pharmaceutical Industry in Ireland.

At the UCC meeting, which was held in the newly-opened Cavanagh Pharmacy Building, officers and committee were elected comprising: President: Frank Hallinan, Wyeth Biopharma; Vice President: Colman Casey, School of Pharmacy, UCC; Secretary: Paul Logue, Elan Corporation; Treasurer: Joan Fitzgerald, Allergan Pharmaceuticals.  Also at the meeting were Mr Bob Myers, President of PDA and Mr Georg Roessling, Senior Vice President PDA Europe.

The mission of PDA is to advance pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical technology internationally by promoting scientifically sound and practical technical information and education for industry and regulatory agencies.
