Franco-Irish Studies Conference at UCC, 10-12 March



Age-old links between France and Ireland in literature, history, politics and philosophy will be the subjects for discussion at a Franco-Irish Studies Conference taking place at UCC from 10-12 March next. Titled “France-Ireland: Interlinks, Interference, Intertextuality”, conference delegates will hear 50 research papers delivered by academics from France, the UK, the US, Australia and Ireland. Topics to be analysed include Samuel Beckett’s war record, Irish aristocrats travelling in France on the eve of the Great Famine, French writers on Irish rugby, Séamus Heaney’s childhood memories of American troops heading for France.

Among the guest speakers is Monsieur Michel Deon; novelist and member of l’Academie Francaise, Paris.

This conference is hosted by UCC’s Department of French and supported by the Service Culturel, French Embassy, Dublin, The UCC College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, The UCC French Department
and The National Centre for Franco-Irish Studies.
