Today Monday (21 February 2005) sees the start of International Cultures Week at UCC 21-25 February. Organised by Áras na Mac Léinn in association with the International Education Office, the week commences with the Official Opening at Devere Hall with a parade of countries in traditional dress, reception and dance display. Activities during the week include an International Food Fair at which the culinary delights of the various countries can be savoured (Tuesday) followed by "An International World Cup" at the Mardyke on Wednesday and an International Cultures Concert at 8pm in Devere Hall. An exhibition of traditional crafts, culture and photography will be on display throughout the week.

"Building on the success of last year's festival I am delighted that so many more International Students are participating this year with representations from Africa, Europe, Middle East, Far East and North America. Students and staff of the college as well as schoolchildren are invited to visit the exhibition during the week" said Grainne Thompson, Events Manager, Áras na Mac Léinn.

UCC now has an international student population of 2,000 from 75 countries. According to Suzanne Buckley, Support Officer at the International Education Office ""International Cultures Week is a forum to learn, explore, share and exchange ideas and information about different traditions, cultures and values and provides a platform to share an understanding of the many cultures and traditions within the UCC community".

Open to students, staff, schools and the general public, International Cultures Week runs from 21-25 February at Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn. 020MMcS
