Leading in the Age of Identity - Lecture by Management Expert, 25 November

The distinguished writer on management, Hamid Bouchikhi, will visit UCC on 25 November where he will lecture on Leading in the Age of Identity. The main conclusion emerging from this lecture is that we have entered, without realizing it, the Age of Identity. In this new era, there are no agreed answers, no answers which we can continue to take for granted, to the question "Who are we?". In the Age of Identity, individuals, social groups and nations can no longer assume that their identity is settled once and for all. They must and can be involved in defining who they are and who they want to be. The lecture will show how questions of identity can affect business organizations and will draw some conclusions regarding their management in the light of considerations of identity.

The Department of French is pleased to welcome Hamid Bouchikhi to UCC. Hamid Bouchikhi is Professor of management and entrepreneurship at ESSEC Business School, Paris, and a leading European researcher in the areas of organization theory, entrepreneurship and managerial innovation. Professor Bouchikhi is also the founder and academic director of ESSEC Ventures, a centre dedicated to providing training, coaching, logistical support and financing to student entrepreneurs, and is Chairman of the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Small Business Network (EISB), which operates within the European Foundation for Management Development.

Professor Bouchikhi's lecture is one is a series entitled European Business Perspectives which has been organized by the BComm European Board of Studies. The BComm European is one of the main undergraduate programmes in the College of Business of Law, where students have the opportunity to combine a general business degree with the study of one of five languages - French, German, Irish, Italian and Spanish - and its associated culture and business environment. A key feature of the programme is that students spend their third year abroad studying in another European university. This is regarded as a positive life-changing experience by many students and it is an experience that is highly valued by employers. Professor Deirdre Hunt, director of the BComm European Board of Studies, commented that 'Professor Bouchikhi's visit provides a unique opportunity to profit from his wide understanding of the interface between European culture and leadership'.

The lecture will take place on Friday 25 November at 12.30 pm in Room 2.55, O'Rahilly Building. For further information, contact the Department of French (french@ucc.ie)

This lecture has received generous support from the Ambassade de France en Irlande.
