Seminar on Assistive Technology



UCC's Disability Support Service hosts a Seminar on Assistive Technology (AT) on Friday next, 18 February entitled "New Developments in the Role of Assistive Technology in Education and Training".

The seminar includes presentations from key specialists in Assistive Technology in Ireland and an exhibition by suppliers of Specialised Hardware and Software. The afternoon session will consist of training workshops in Jaws - used by Blind and Vision Impaired students; Dragon - used by dyslexic and physically disabled students; Read and Write - used by dyslexic students.

The first talk "AT Enabling Students in an Educational Environment" at 10.15am is followed by "Emerging Trends in Assistive Technology" at 10.45am. "AT the International Perspective" is the title of the talk at 11.15am. The morning proceedings will close at 11.45am with an Open Forum - Questions and Answers.

According to Mary O'Grady, UCC's Disability Support Officer, "The Seminar will give teachers, parents, educators, students with disabilities and professionals working in the field of disability, an opportunity to view first hand a wide range of new and innovative developments in the field of Assistive Technologies in Ireland. The afternoon workshops will give an opportunity for experiential learning as participants can learn and explore options by using varying software packages" said Ms O'Grady.

The Seminar takes place Friday, 18 February 10am-4pm, Devere Hall, Student Centre with registration at 9.30am. Admission is free and all are welcome.
