Support for University College Cork's (UCC) Access Programme


University College Cork's Access Programme for school leavers from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds is set to benefit with the announcement by PricewaterhouseCoopers to lend its support to the Programme. At a recent visit to UCC Mr Joe O'Shea, Partner in Charge and Ms Anne Fitzgerald, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers announced details of the support due to take effect shortly.

UCC's Access Programme commenced in 1996 and is a priority policy of the University's Strategic Development Plan. In a partnership with 28 schools, the Programme aims to identify high potential students and to provide them with motivational, educational and financial assistance to enhance their ability to compete for places in higher education. In addition the Programme aims to change attitudes of teachers, parents, and children to the concept of a university education and to raise the aspirations of the whole community.

To date 363 students have accessed the University through the Programme and there are currently 250 students being supported by the programme across all years and faculties.

Speaking at the announcement Mr Cal Healy Development Manager UCC stated, "Partnership support such as PricewaterhouseCoopers for UCC's Access Programme is critical for the programme to grow over the next number of years and realize its full potential".
