UCC hosts e-Law Summer Institute, 18 July-12 August
Over 30 students from seven US law schools along with a number of Irish
students will participate in the first E-Law Institute at UCC.
Hosted by UCC's Law Faculty in conjunction with the Franklin Perce Law
Center, New Hampshire, the Institute will run from 18 July to 12 August
2005.
The Institute, which is accredited by the American Bar Association,
will focus on the emerging policy and law of the information age and is
designed to be a critical learning experience for the lawyer of the
21st century who is required to have a much greater understanding and
appreciation of the domestic and international aspects of this growing
and evolving body of law.
Staff from the Faculty of Law, UCC and the Franklin Pierce Law Center
will teach on the programme. Topics which will be examined
include: regulation of the internet and cyber crime; protecting the
online consumer and the legal control of spam.
At a reception hosted by the UCC's Law Faculty and the Southern Law
Association to mark the first annual e-Law institute, the President of
UCC, Professor Gerard Wrixon welcomed all involved and noted how the
Institute "offers US and Irish students a unique opportunity to explore
not only each others' cultures but also vital legal issues on the
cutting edge of law and technology."
