UCC's President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching, 2005
UCC President, Professor Gerard Wrixon today (30 June 2005) presented
Awards for Excellence in Teaching at a ceremony in UCC. Five
members of staff were honoured: Dr Maeve Conrick, Department of French;
Eleanor O'Sullivan, Cork Dental School & Hospital, Dr James
Gleeson, Department of Applied Mathematics; Dr Elke Arendt, Department
of Food & Nutritional Sciences and Vicky Janssens, Department of
Classics.
The President's Awards for Excellence in Teaching Scheme was set up to:
- recognise, reward and celebrate teaching achievement and contributions to good and innovative teaching in the university;
- enhance student-centred teaching and learning at UCC;
- contribute to the implementation of the teaching and learning strategy as outlined in the UCC Strategic Plan.
All staff involved in teaching in UCC are eligible to apply for an
award on an individual or group basis with assessment consisting of
three elements: portfolio assessment, student evaluation and peer
review.
The awards have been made available under the Targeted Initiatives
Scheme funded by the Higher Education Authority as part of the National
Development Plan 2002-2006.
