UCC Professor of Italian receives honour from Presidente della Repubblica, 2 June
The President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, has
conferred on UCC's Professor Eduardo Saccone the title of
Knight-Commander of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity for his
special contribution to the promotion of Italian culture in the world.
Professor Saccone, who came to Cork in 1994 from the Johns Hopkins
University, provided outstanding academic leadership in the Department
of Italian until his retirement in September 2004, and remains one of
the leading figures in Italian studies internationally.
The conferral of the honour will be made at a special ceremony hosted
by the Italian Ambassador to Ireland and his wife, His Excellency Dott.
Alberto Schepisi and Signora Maria Sofia Schepisi, at Lucan House on
Thursday, 2 June 2005, Italy's National Day.
