University Women of Europe (UWE) - UCC Conference, 10-12 June
Women graduates from 12 European countries will gather at University
College Cork (UCC) from 10-12 June next for a two-day conference titled
"Red Light on Dangerous Traffic".
Hosted by the Irish Federation of University Women, the two-day
conference will include keynote speaker Dr Maura O'Donoughue MMM,
specialist in International Community Health, Humanitarian Relief and
Human Trafficking who will speak on "Trafficking, the Facts". Dr
O'Donoghue is a Consultant and Researcher for Caritas Europa, the
leading agency in Human Trafficking for Caritas Internationalis and
also works with Coatnet, a Catholic organisation against trafficking of
women.
Dr Ethel Quayle of Copine, UCC will speak on the "Victimisation of
Children through Abusive Images on the Internet". Also scheduled is Dr Siobhan Mullally,
Senior Lecturer in UCC's Department of Law who will speak on "Legal
Responses to Trafficking; Providing Adequate Protection?"
The University Women of Europe (UWE) is a network of of university
women associations from 22 countries working in partnership with the
Council of Europe and the European Women's Lobby to address issues
impacting on the lives of women throughout the European community.
Councillor Mary Shields (Deputy Lord Mayor) will host a welcome
reception. The Conference will close with a visit to Fota House
and Gardens.
