Report on Quality Review of UCC

The report of the European Universities Association (EUA) published today (April 25th 2005), which finds that UCC is playing a pivotal role in the development of research and education in the Munster region, has been welcomed by the University.

The report also finds that the student experience at UCC is an extremely happy one and that the students enjoy a very fruitful relationship with the University.  UCC's emphasis on students and the quality of education provided at the University is central to UCC's mission, the EUA's report says, and adds that UCC's successful research strategy has resulted in the creation of research institutes and centres in key subject areas, matching the University's main strengths as well as the Government's strategy for a knowledge-based economy.  The report also says that the re-structuring plan at UCC, which is well under way, will have a beneficial effect on the development of policies in areas such as interdisciplinary studies as well as teaching and research.   It also commends the Quality Review process at UCC and says the process must lead to dialogue which could inform on-going strategic management and help develop a stronger decision-making process.

Together with the other Irish universities, UCC recently participated in a Review of Quality Assurance Procedures in Irish Universities.  The IUQB (Irish Universities Quality Board) and the HEA (Higher Education Authority) commissioned the EUA to conduct the review on their behalf. The report was launched today (April 25th 2005) by the Minister for Education & Science, Ms Mary Hanafin, TD.

The report on UCC is available on the QPU website (http://www.ucc.ie/quality), along with the initial response of the university submitted to the IUQB by UCC, together with an executive summary of the report and its key findings.
