UCC Conference to Examine a Number of Urgent Themes in Environmental Law
The evolving body of law governing environmental regulation and the
attendant problems for those who must implement it as well as policy
makers will be explored at a conference on Thursday, April 14 organised
by UCC's Faculty of Law.
This is the third annual Law and the Environment Conference and a broad
spectrum of topics will be explored by leading experts during the
conference. This year's programme has been significantly expanded with
a total of 14 presentations scheduled and arranged into four specialist
sessions. These include sessions on Developments in Waste Law,
Developments in Water Law and Environmental Complaints /
Objections. There is also a session scheduled on General Issues
in Environmental Law, which includes presentations on a range of key
issues impacting upon environmental governance in Ireland today.
UCC's dynamic and growing Environmental Law Group, based within the
Faculty of Law, is involved in leading-edge research into all aspects
of environmental law and regulation and is fast becoming a recognised
centre of excellence in this area, both nationally and
internationally. In addition, it seeks to play a key role in
developing understanding by bringing together legal practitioners,
regulators, policy-makers, interest groups, industry and service sector
managers as well as academics, with an interest in environmental law
and policy.
The conference will build on the success of similar events held over
the last two years and has become the pre-eminent event in the Irish
Environmental Law calendar. Some 200 lawyers and other
professionals attended last year's event and a similar number of
delegates are expected this year.
