MBS in Business Information Systems - Innovative Software Business Investment Pitch


The inaugural year of the Masters in Business Information Systems is reaching its finale, with the students pitching their innovative software business ideas to prominent business investment decision makers on Tuesday 22nd March.  Throughout the year the student teams have been working with industry mentors on establishing the commercial viability of an innovative software business.  A broad range of business sectors have been explored and prototypes developed for health informatics, enterprise business intelligence, the legal profession, mobile computing for financial services, intangible capital management, social networking, gaming and mobile music search by humming.

Three key business people are acting as assessors, therefore adding to the realism of the investment pitch exercise. These include Mr. Frank Coombes, (Director of Financial Advisory Services, Deloitte, Cork), Mr Niall Olden, (CEO, Kernel Capital Partners) and Mr Martin Corkery (Enterprise Ireland).

The programme is a one-year taught masters that focuses on Information Systems professional practice. The programme provides students with a coherent portfolio of business, innovation and consultancy skills, as well as enhancing their knowledge of IS concepts and core technical skills.  The students were supported in their software business development endeavours by a team of industry mentors.  The mentoring team drew on their wealth of experience in advising the students and brought a strong realistic commercial edge to their work.  They include Mary Byrne, Donnacha Broderick, Donal Daly, Donagh Kiernan, Dick Mackessy, Teddy McCarthy, Sean O'Sullivan and David Murray.
