Happy Birthday Einstein!
To coincide with Einstein Year, the International Year of Physics, and Hamilton Year, the British Council Ireland and the Institute of Physics in Ireland are hosting a Café Scientifique at the Glucksman Café, Glucksman Gallery, University College Cork, on Monday 14th March - Einstein's birthday.
Professor Michael Berry of Bristol University will give a presentation entitled Physics Through Pictures at 6.30 p.m.
Beautiful natural phenomena, paintings, poems, and striking computer graphics can often illustrate the abstract ideas in physics and so diminish the fear of the subject. This is especially true of the physics of light:waves and rays express themselves in rainbows, the sparkling of the sea, bright lines dancing on the bottom of swimming-pools, and the gravitational lensing of distant galaxies (as predicted by Einstein).
