Brown Thomas Cork Steps into spring for International Women's Day

The new Lewis Glucksman Gallery at UCC was the special venue for the launch of the Spring/Summer 2005 collection at Brown Thomas on Tuesday 8th March.

The event took the form of a charity luncheon in aid of the Glucksman Education and Outreach Programme, as supporters of both the visual arts and fashion celebrated International Women?s Day in Style.

This is the first major fundraising event this year for the new gallery and proceeds from the event will be donated directly to the Glucksman Education and Outreach Programme, which works with schools in disadvantaged areas of Cork to enable children to have a first-hand encounter with visual arts and, equally importantly, an introduction to University College Cork in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.

"We are delighted with the tremendous support for the Glucksman Education and Outreach Programme and we hope that people are inspired by the new looks for the season," said Caroline Counihan, Manager, Brown Thomas Cork.

"The imaginative workshops of our education team cultivate wonder and inspire confidence in our younger viewers. With the proceeds of this spectacular fashion show, we hope to make the programme available to a greater number of participants," says Fiona Kearney, Director of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, UCC.

The event commenced with a greeting by the 5th Class Choir from Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, Ballinlough followed by a champagne reception and special viewing of 'Forty Shades of Green,' - one of the key exhibitions for Cork 2005 - before sitting down to lunch in the magnificent first floor gallery.

Then, top models from Assets and the Holman Lee Agencies showcased the hottest looks for the season, including international labels Betty Jackson, Moschino, Diane Von Furstenberg, Whistles, Day Birger et Mikkelsen, Coast, Jesire, Phase Eight and Hobbs. Helen McAlinden, Paul Costelloe and Quin and Donnelly represented the Irish designers.

After the show, Cara O'Sullivan gave a short operatic recital, accompanied by harpist Diane Marshall which was greatly received by everyone.
