SCOPT: Streaming Cost Optimisation in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

Responsible:

Short descripton:

The project aims to develop novel media streaming management algorithms that improve the user streaming experience in next-generation heterogeneous wireless networks. These networks will integrate the service of different radio access technologies to improve both network resource utilization and user wireless experience. In such systems, users should be able to seamlessly roam across different networks, commonly known as vertical handoff (VHO). One of the core objectives is to develop new algorithms that exploit the inherent cost and resource diversity of integrated radio access technologies to minimize the cost of stored media streaming sessions.

The developed algorithms should enable the user to optimize the session cost while intelligently adapting to user mobility, operator cost strategies, and application quality-of-service (QoS) requirements.

Additionally, these algorithms should accommodate the limited processing power of mobile devices and satisfy VHO delay requirements.
