25th September 2018 - Occupation: Everybody, Everywhere, Everyday
About the Exhibition
The annual exhibition of prints and textiles created by first year Occupational Therapy students was opened by textile artist Lesley Stothers in the Jennings Gallery on 25th September 2018. The students created their pieces with guidance from Lesley and tutors at Cork Printmakers as part of their module OT1005 Creative Occupations and Health, designed and led by Dr. Eithne Hunt.
This year’s theme, reflected in the students’ beautiful and thoughtful works, was “Occupation: Everybody, Everywhere, Everyday”, words drawn from a paper by Emeritus Professor at the University of Southern California, Ruth Zemke. Ruth sent a message to the students, writing that when she entered the field of occupational therapy over 50 years ago, the definition of the profession always included “the art and science”. She described how she learned over the years that both the art and science require creativity and an open mind to the wonders of the world around us - both natural and human made. Students Nicola Giles, Chloe Murphy and Chloe O’Connell all read from the accompanying exhibition booklet, sharing the meaning behind their artworks.
