When Art, History & Medical Education Collide - The Jennings Gallery
at UCC Hosts an art exhibition on the Legacy of Andreas Vesalius
The Exhibition ‘Legacy of Andreas Vesalius’ opened on Tuesday 21st October 2014 at the Jennings Gallery, Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC.
This special anatomical exhibition is organized by the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience at UCC and celebrates the work of the great anatomist and medical educator, Andreas Vesalius, 500 years after his birth.
The exhibition followed a conference on the work and legacy of Vesalius which took place that afternoon in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex.Vesalius’ seminal publication of 1543, “De Humani Corporis Fabrica” represented one of the greatest historical shifts in medicine and the way it was taught.
The exhibition features special reprints of Vesalius’ wonderful anatomical drawings and compares them with modern anatomical drawings. The exhibition also features a display of anatomical instruments.
The Vesalius Exhibition will be opened by Professor John Higgins, Head College of Medicine and Health, UCC and will remain open until 1st December.
