Abstract
The climate emergency presents major challenges for planetary health. Reforming agriculture and food systems — and in particular, reducing livestock production and consumption in industrialised countries — is widely recognised as essential to addressing the crisis. However, political will and action remain weak. Conflicting narratives about the role of livestock and meat consumption contributes to policy inertia and public confusion, particularly when amplified by industry-supported academic contributions. Taking a case study approach, this talk examines these issues and illustrates the strategies used by industry to influence science.
Bus Stop Chats
The ISS21 SHAPE (Society, Health Equity and Political Economy) research cluster will host a series of online Bus Stop Chats, from December 2025 to May 2026. Each of these informal lunch-time events involves a member of the SHAPE cluster presenting and discussing an area of their research to an interested and largely non-expert audience.
Details and link to the seminar on 16 Feb. 2026 to follow.
