World Water Day 2017 at UCC

16 Mar 2017
To celebrate World Water Day, this seminar will emphasise the need for water quality monitoring to support Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goal for Water.

Each year UN Water promotes awareness of water issues and sustainable use of water by celebrating World Water Day. On World Water Day 2017 Dr Deborah Chapman, Director of the UN Environment GEMS/Water Capacity Development Centre in UCC, will raise awareness of the new global Agenda 2030 and its associated Sustainable Development Goal for water.

The main activities associated with the new water Goal will be described and the critical role played by water quality monitoring in helping countries meet the Goal over the next 15 years will be highlighted. A brief description of the current work of the GEMS/Water Centre in UCC in support of the water Goal will be given and future activities will be outlined.
