Graduate Spotlight: Dr Kevin Deegan Talks Dairy Innovation on Newstalk
UCC School of Food and Nutritional Sciences graduate Dr Kevin Deegan now serves as Vice President for Innovation at Valio, a global leader in food and dairy innovation based in Finland.
Valio is widely regarded as one of the most innovative dairy companies in the world, with a long tradition of breakthroughs including a Nobel Prize winning discovery many years ago on how grass can be converted to silage using lactic acid bacteria fermentation. The School has also collaborated with Valio on research projects in recent years, reflecting a strong partnership in advancing food science.
Last Saturday, Kevin joined Bobby Kerr on the “Down to Business” programme on Newstalk Radio, ahead of his contribution to the Agricultural Science Association Annual Conference in Cork.
In the podcast, “The Business of Dairy Innovation”, Kevin reflects on everything from dairy markets and plant-based foods to innovation, life in Finland, and even saunas.
