About

Our Postgraduate Research Committee is a collaborative, student-led group that brings postgraduate researchers together to build a vibrant research community. The Committee represents postgraduate student interests, encourages engagement and collaboration across the School, and works closely with staff to enhance the postgraduate research experience.

Background

Founded in March 2024 by FNS postgraduate students, the Committee aims to 'foster a collaborative, inclusive community for postgraduate students across all disciplines within the School and to support you throughout your time in UCC'. Since its establishment, the Committee has strengthened communication and representation for postgraduate researchers while creating opportunities to connect, share experiences and contribute to School life.

Activities

Since its formation, this student-led Committee has become a driving force in enhancing the postgraduate research experience, creating opportunities for students to connect, collaborate, and develop professionally. Its initiatives include developing a School-specific postgraduate induction and resources handbook; establishing student communication platforms, a quarterly newsletter, and a dedicated LinkedIn page; organising guest lectures, symposia, and regular monthly social events that foster a vibrant and inclusive research community; coordinating the Three Minute Thesis competition; and delivering professional development opportunities through academic writing workshops and a  Statistics in Research training course.
