UCC Department of English Undergraduate Awards

Please find, in the below link, details regarding the Global Undergraduate Awards. All Department of English 2nd and 3rd year students who submit work to the Global Undergraduate Awards are eligible to submit work to the UCC Department of English Undergraduate Awards.  The rules/requirements for the UCC Department of English Undergraduate Awards are the same as those for the Global Undergraduate Awards, with the exception that 2nd and 3rd year entrants will be judged separately; consequently, students cannot submit work from a previous academic year to the UCC Department of English Awards.  There will be one winner for the Department of English Undergraduate Awards in each year and 3 to 4 highly recommended entrants.

Seminar essays are particularly suited to the Undergraduate Awards. I would, therefore, encourage those of you who have attained a mark of 75% or over in a seminar essay to submit work to the Global Undergraduate Awards (and, of course, to the Department of English Undergraduate Awards).

Submission for the Global Undergraduate Awards closes on   June 6th, though students are encouraged to register and submit in advance of that deadline.  Registration for the Global Undergraduate Awards is now open.  Submission for the Department of English Undergraduate Awards opens on   June 6th at 9am and closes on   June 9th, at 12 noon.
The essays should be emailed to Miranda Corcoran at miranda.corcoran@ucc.ie 
Please ensure that you have proof of application to the Global Undergraduate Awards as this may be requested at a later date.
HDip students and visiting students are not eligible for the Department of English Undergraduate Awards.
The Department of English has an additional award, The Patricia Coughlan Award.  This award is for outstanding essays on one or more of the following topics: gender and literature, women's writing, femininities or masculinities in literary or film texts.    The Patricia Coughlan Award is open to all students, including HDip students and visiting students, who are enrolled on 2nd and 3rd year Department of English undergraduate modules.  The submission for this award also opens on   June 6th at 9am and closes on   June 9th, at 12 noon. The essays should be emailed to Miranda Corcoran at miranda.corcoran@ucc.ie. 
  • Please remove your name and student number from work submitted to the UCC awards, and please ensure that your name, student number, module code and name, and the name of the relevant lecturer are included in the accompanying email.
