Digital Humanities hosts Tableau workshop

The Department of Digital Humanities proudly hosted Ciaran Flynn from Tableau, who delivered a compelling and engaging Workshop in why and how to use Tableau Desktop as a data visualisation and data Dashboarding platform. Over 60 attendees enjoyed a fascinating discussion of the impact and importance of being data articulate in today's society. He provided a variety of anecdotal demonstrations of how data can be harnessed effectively using Tableau to create data driven narratives that stimulate inquiry and encourage exploration.
The hands-on portion of the workshop was particularly appreciated as it allowed everyone to get their first experiences with talking raw data and exposing it for exploration and dissemination through Tableau's powerful visualisation platform. All participants received an annual subscription to use Tableau as part of their academic work and expressed their appreciation for the Ciaran's skill in introducing them to Tableau. As UCCDH MA student Verushka Aucamp enthused: "My mind is racing with ideas after the Tableau workshop this afternoon. Now we can use all the resources online to build useful and telling dashboards."
The workshop was organised by Shawn Day, Lecturer in Digital Humanities.
