Position Summary

An EU H2020-funded position is available for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to work in the Center for Research into Atmospheric Chemistry (CRAC) under the auspices of the Environmental Research Institute at UCC. Through a Science Foundation Ireland award, CRAC has recently established the Irish Atmospheric Simulation Chamber (IASC), a large scale national facility for investigating atmospheric chemical reactions of gases and particles that can impact on air quality and climate change. The CRAC is a partner in the European network of atmospheric simulation chambers, EUROCHAMP-2020 (www.eurochamp.org), and is seeking to incorporate state-of-the-art mass spectrometry tools into everyday operation of the IASC facility. The successful applicant will work in this project under the direction of the Principal Investigators on the application of an Aerodyne Time-of-Flight Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer to atmospheric simulation studies. The successful candidate will be expected to operate this new instrument in experiments on a range of different atmospheric processes including, atmospheric oxidation of volatile organic compounds and secondary organic aerosol formation. The researcher will also work on developing protocols for experimental procedures and data analysis to fully establish and enhance the instrumental capabilities of IASC.

The work will be performed in collaboration with the Physics Department (UCC) and international partners in the EUROCHAMP-2020 consortium. The post is a fixed term contract and will involve travel and short-term research visits within the remit of the EUROCHAMP-2020 project.
