Gabriela was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from the Regional University of Blumenau, Brazil (2009), and a postgraduate degree in Functional Clinical Nutrition and Phytotherapy from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, Brazil (2011). She obtained her master's degree (2016) and her Ph.D. in Food Science, from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil (2021).

During her Ph.D., Gabriela studied food components that affect human nutrition and health, with emphasis on the analysis of bioactive lipids and microbial production of bioactive fatty acids such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).

She spent a year in Ireland (2019), where she developed part of her Ph.D. research at University College Cork, based at TEAGASC, Moorepark. Back to Ireland in 2021, Gabriela held the position of Microbiology Technologist, as part of the research and development team of APC Microbiome Ireland working on an Industry-related project.

Project

Currently, Gabriela is part of Prof. Mark Tangney team, working with the Microbes and Cancer group in Cancer Research @UCC. Focused on Immune responses to intratumoural bacteria, her research is aimed at investigating the induction of anti-cancer immune responses via administered bacteria.
