The Environmental Ethics of Film
In this talk, Paolo Saporito will lead an interactive session that will analyse sequences from films about land exploitation and overbuilding (“Le mani sulla città” /Hands Over the City, 1963). He will talk about how he interprets images to elaborate ethical reflections concerning environmental issues.
Paolo Saporito is Senior Research Coordinator at University College Cork. He was previously IRC Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Film and Screen Media at UCC. He has a PhD in Italian Studies from McGill University, where he also taught courses on Italian culture and cinema. His research focuses on how culture, especially films and literary texts, contribute to the development of viable political ecologies and sustainable ethics.
