"Oppositions and Intersections in Architecture" lunchtime Research Seminar series curated by MArch team.

A new Research Seminar series called "Oppositions and Intersections in Architecture" will begin this Tuesday, 24th October in Cork Centre of Architectural Education that tests the dialectic in architecture towards and from: culture, body, environment, gender, and technology. This seminar series has been curated by the MArch Team here at CCAE.

These positions are loosely circumscribed in the introduction in John Macarthur and Andrew Leach's collection of essays "Architecture, Disciplinarity, and the Arts" where they establish the wider problematic by declaring that:

What is it today to speak of architecture as an art, and what should we make of the long history of this question? Is it relevant that usage by which we name the visual arts “art” (to the exclusion of music, dance, poetry, or architecture) is also relatively recent? Or, is the current intersection of architecture and the visual arts primarily to do with their intersecting histories?

The first in the series kicks off next Tuesday, 24th October over lunch time in LR3. Please find attached poster.

Robert Curgenven, a sound artist, will discuss his work that emphasizes physicality, our embodied response to sound and its correspondence to location, air, weather and architectureYvon Bonenfant, artistic researcher in and of the voice, will explore the (unusual) human voice and queer vibratory space.
