Major research to investigate legacy of the Vikings in Europe
UCC researcher to lead European-wide project investigating how ideas, misinformation and extremist narratives about the Vikings spread. Dr Birkett awarded €2m European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant to lead research on the legacy of the Vikings. NorseMap will adapt large-scale citizen science mapping to the humanities.

Pioneering laser expert joins UCC’s 175th physics anniversary
An internationally renowned expert in the field of ultrafast laser and x-ray science is among the high-profile graduates who took part in a special event on 29 November celebrating 175 years of Physics at University College Cork (UCC). Professor Margaret Murnane is a Distinguished Professor of Physics at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her accolades include the 2022 Isaac Newton Medal and Prize, awarded by the Institute of Physics.

UCC researcher to develop a third-level cancer care educational programme to support patients
A University College Cork (UCC) researcher will develop a programme that supports the education of current and future health-care providers who work with patients on their cancer journey, as part of a project to receive funding from the Health Research Board All-Island Cancer Consortium (HRB AICC) awards.
