21 Sep 2024

The SDSN Ireland delegation attended the Summit of the Future Action Days at the United Nations General Assembly.  During his welcoming address, Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez stated "We need academics to push the boundaries of knowledge to create solutions".

The highlight of the Summit of the Future Action Days was the Peace not War side event coinciding with the International Day of Peace where speakers will explore how concrete actions in peace, justice, and inclusion can advance the Sustainable Development Goals. This session was chaired by Deputy Ambassador of the permanent Irish mission at the UN, HE Nuala ni Mhuircheataigh.

SDSN Ireland Executive Committee Chair David Donoghue delivered the keynote address based on his insights as lead Irish negotiator as the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.  Colombian Ambassadors HE Quintana provided insights into the Colombian Peace Process and HE Leonor Zalabata Torres emphatically stated that "Peace is not a destination but an ongoing process".
