Climate Action Week 2024

10 Oct 2024

Events for Climate Action Week, 14th - 17th October 2024.

Monday 14th

Solidarity with Global Environmental Activists: a gathering

Globally, while progress is being made on solving environmental crises in some areas, fossil fuels continue to proliferate and ecosystems continue to be destroyed for profit. Those responsible for this damage are not being held to account. Instead, environmental activists are facing draconian prison sentences, violence and, in some cases in the global south, murder. Join us and Global Justice Society in making placards inspired by the Just Stop Oil "soup-throwers," in the Lucy Smith Room (4.01) in The Hub from 4pm - 4.30pm. At 4.30pm, we'll walk to the gates of main campus with our placards, to demonstrate our solidarity with environmental activists everywhere in ten minutes of silence.

Where: Lucy Smith Room, 4th floor of the Hub

When: 4pm - 5pm

Lunch-time nature walk

All life on earth is threatened by the climate crisis. Therefore, it’s never been more important to be familiar with what’s living all around us, so we can protect what we have. Open your eyes and ears to the nature on main campus in an expert-led tour facilitated by Dr. Dara Fitzpatrick. Dr. Fitzpatrick is a Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry at UCC. He also happens to have a deep knowledge of Irish ecology.

Where: Meeting at the Glucksman

When: 1pm - 2pm

Wednesday 16th

Bulb-planting session led by UCC Environmental Society

Launch of UCC Clothes Swap Rail in collaboration with Cork Clothes Swap

Got clothes hanging around that you don’t wear anymore? Want to freshen up your wardrobe, but hate the ethos of fast fashion? Bring an item to the launch of UCC’s Clothes Swap Rail, and get swapping! The process is simple: take one item off the rail and replace it with one of your own that you’d like someone else to enjoy. Massive thanks to Cork Clothes Swap, who have provided us with the rail, clothing and props.

Where: Global Lounge, The Hub (3rd floor; where the microwaves and seating are)
