Siobhan Keogh ~ MArch

I am undertaking a Masters in Architecture, which runs for twelve months. We have just submitted our Pre-Thesis and portfolio for the first two semesters so now we are enjoying a well-earned three-week break! When we come back to start the third semester it will be in the beautiful new building which is part of the Nano Nagle Centre campus on Douglas street. Before we start back, our work up to this point will be exhibited in the new school along with the undergraduate end of year show. It is always immensely satisfying to see your hard work displayed in an exhibition setting and a great platform to meet potential employers and encourage discussion amongst visiting professionals and interested members of the public.

I like that the course focuses on a different international city every year. At the beginning of this year we travelled to Venice for two weeks. All our research and design work has related to the challenges and possibilities we experienced while there. This gives a wonderful opportunity to experience different cultures and a wide range of environments to test your design skills in preparation for working in an international setting. The course has a strong focus on creativity and encourages students to engage in questioning the status quo. We are regularly visited by guest critics and tutors from top international schools of architecture such as the Bartlett or the AA in London.

The facilities are constantly improving year on year with new equipment such as a Laser cutter now available to students for model making. I am excited to experience life on the new campus which also has beautiful tranquil gardens, a heritage centre and café with special focus on sustainability. As the M.Arch class will be working throughout the summer while the undergraduates are on holiday we will have this beautiful new facility all to ourselves!
