So the academic year 17/18 has come and gone, bringing with it some interesting weather events such as the notorious Hurricane Ophelia and in March the largest snowfall Ireland's seen in 36 years. These unusual happenings were much appreciated by students and staff alike... who doesn't love a good snow day! Despite the campus closing only for a few days during this, the 2nd semester seems to have flown by and the long anticipated summer seems to finally be here.

For my course, the goal of this semester was to improve our clinical practice. Throughout the year, we train in top-range audiology facilities located in the Brookfield Health Sciences Building. Hearing aid fitting, counselling and rehabilitation were the focus of our appointments with adult patients this side of Christmas. During this semester we also completed a 2 week off-site placement, the location of which could be anywhere throughout Ireland. These placements were brilliant for my practical skills and are essential to gain hands-on training in audiology clinics around the country.

Towards the end of this semester, after many late nights in the library prepping for assignments and exams, I fortunately got to enjoy a few weeks off ... before launching into semester 3 (yes that exists!). This 3rd semester takes place completely off-site from UCC and consists of a 12 week placement. I'm completing mine in Dublin this summer. As much as I'm looking forward to this experience, I will miss Cork so I'll be keen to return to UCC come September for my second and final year of the MSc.
