Dr Tatsuma Padoan launches his New Foundations project
Dr Tatsuma Padoan (Study of Religions Department) has been awarded New Foundations funding from Research Ireland, for the project “Aesthetic Identities: Senses, Socialisation and Audiovisuality in Asian Diasporic Communities” (NF/2025/12730 - €9,885, 12 months).
The project - in collaboration with Prof Laura Rascaroli (Film and Screen Media Department) and based at the SENSA Lab (Laboratory for Semiotics, Ethnosemiotics, Nonfictional Studies and Audiovisuality) - will explore the role of senses in the construction of social identities through an ethnography of foodways, festivals and audiovisual production within the Nepalese diasporic community of Newars in London, with a view to producing an ethnographic film in cooperation with members of Pasa Puchah Guthi UK.
