Dr Amanullah De Sondy visits the University of Tokyo during sabbatical research
Dr Amanullah De Sondy, Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Islam in UCC’s Department of the Study of Religions, visited the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia at the University of Tokyo as part of his 2026–27 sabbatical.
During the visit, Dr De Sondy met with his former PhD supervisor and long-standing academic mentor, Lloyd Ridgeon, to discuss current research and writing projects being developed during his sabbatical year. The visit provided an opportunity for scholarly exchange around Islam, religion and contemporary society, and for conversations about the study of religion across different academic and cultural contexts.
