Congratulations to Sinéad Creedon, Recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

Early Career Award

On December 4th, Sinéad Creedon was presented with the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching 2025!

UCC prides itself on being a student-centred university. This awards scheme, the longest-running scheme of its kind in Ireland, recognises the outstanding efforts of teaching staff to ensure that UCC students receive the highest quality learning and teaching experience.    

All UCC students, staff and alumni were invited to submit nominations for these awards and fourteen awards were presented at a ceremony in the Aula Maxima.

Sinéad said: "It was so nice to celebrate with my husband Damian Creedon, and Professor Ella Arensman, Head of School of Public Health, who also represented the College of Medicine and Health for the evening.

Thank you sincerely Elaine Molony for nominating me for this award. Elaine has recently completed the Masters in IPC and will graduate herself, in Spring 2026!

Elaine's nomination alone was an honour, but to be selected by the Office of Vice-President for Learning and Teaching for this award was priceless. Well done to all of the other nominees, including my own team Maura Smiddy, Julie Arnott MPH, and Fiona Barry, and sincere congratulations to all of the other award winners. A great night was had by all, and I am exceptionally grateful!"

We have many outstanding individuals and teams among us. Given the strong field of nominees, it was very difficult for the Awards Selection Committee to reach their final decisions. To be nominated in itself is a significant honour and we congratulate all nominees and not just those who were successful.

This is an amazing achievement and a great testimonial of the high quality teaching, supervision and educational innovation accomplishments by Sinéad over many years!
